    Samuel and Cicely Chapin came to the New World sometime in 1638 or early 1639, settled in Roxbury, and moved to Springfield, Massachusetts Bay Colony, a few years later. Samuel became Deacon Chapin in Springfield and one of the most influential and powerful people in this colonial community.
